I know what it feels like to be overweight. In the 4th grade I remember weighing in the health room at 180 lbs. I was very shy & teased often by peers. This was the start of my driving force towards fitness. I also know what it feels like to be extremely skinny & unhealthy. I looked anorexic. At age 20, while a sophomore in college, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease (incurable inflammatory bowel disease). Living with dis-ease was painful, discouraging, & it was difficult to eat even healthy foods & to gain lean muscle mass. I graduated college with a degree in Exercise Science, immediately obtained my NSCA-CPT, & have been a certified personal trainer since. From age 20 on, it has been my quest to obtain real health & freedom from dis-ease. I have been off of Crohn's medications doctors told me I'd be on for the rest of my life for over 8 years now.

I first decided to compete in a Figure Competition in 2010. 3 weeks before competition, Crohn’s disease flared up & I needed to get emergency bowel resection. 7 inches of my small intestines were removed. Though it was difficult, I chose my health & to nurse myself back to full health & put my dreams of competing on hold. Despite the battle wound on the lower left quadrant of my abdomen, my healing was miraculous. I was able to again prep & finally competed in my first NPC Figure Competition in July 2011, exactly 1 year later. Placing 2nd in my division & qualifying for Nationals, I was ecstatic!!! For continued experience & self-mastery, I again competed at Hawaii’s biggest NPC show, Paradise Cup in November 2011, placing 5th. I completed all of this as a single mother of two young beautiful children.

Today, at age 30, I feel dis-ease free, can eat many foods for optimal health, and implement healthy & efficient workouts for a Figure physique. I also obtained a master’s degree in Sport Psychology & am currently a University Nutrition instructor & thriving personal trainer. I am grateful for my past experiences which have pushed me to be who I am today. Ultimately, standing on a stage & competing in a Figure Competition has always been a dream of mine ever since I was that little girl. As a single mother through all of this, my biggest motivator is being a hero to my two young children. I emphasize to them the importance of healthy foods & exercise & most of all to reach whatever dreams they may have. It is not the end of my fitness journey.
